Mr. Eatough really has something here! Being a fan of mythology as I am, the connections and references made the book that much more fun. Otherwise, the undercurrents of love, the struggle between moralities, the pain...all were very real and touching in their execution.I found myself frequently setting aside the novel and pondering the questions raised for myself before continuing to find how the characters resolve them. There was a real perplexity over identities and such, some of which I did not feel were resolved until very close to or at the end. Even then, Eatough leaves a lot for his anticipated sequel. Be sure when you begin that you are willing to wait on some answers until next time.
As to the characters themselves: I found some relationships were a little underdeveloped in the beginning. Mostly, Eatough focuses on the back-and-forth of his protagonists. This is to be expected as his narration switches frequently between their perspectives, which nicely narrows the field of vision and allows for some very exciting parallels!
Overall, I enjoyed the book and was very excited about his conclusion! Pick up a copy and take time to examine the issues for yourself. You may just find some of your assumptions challenged by the minds of Eatough's creations.

The Western Gods eBook Caleb Eatough Brianne Eatough Reviews
This book is well worth reading, its characters, plot and world are all interesting and unique. I especially enjoy how the author combines ancient mythologies with Christian theology. The conclusion left me with questions about the world the author created, and I look forward to exploring it further in a sequel.
It started slowly, not picking up until halfway through at the least. But it is such a peculiar and original rendition of historical fiction, it's hard to resist after that. I enjoyed the last half of the book.
He set it up nicely for a sequel, and I think if the next few are executed well I will look back upon this book fondly as the beginning of it all. I can't wait to see where the journey reads next.
Loved, loved, loved this book! From the very first page, I was pulled in by the fast-paced dialogue, the intriguing characters, and air of mystery, adventure, and suspense that permeates this story. The shifting viewpoints between the characters allows you to experience the drama from radically different points of view...this technique was expertly employed throughout the story, making for a delightful and page-turning ride! Not only does this book entertain, but it will make you think and feel deeply, as well. This debut novel is sure to the be first in a long succession of successful books by this rising author! I'm looking forward to the next one!
